The Bridgeport High School softball team is off to a 1-1 start under first-year coach J.R. Frenzel.

The Indians won their season opener against Fairmont Senior, 10-2, and dropped their second game of the season to Robert C. Byrd by the same 10-2 score.

Against the Polar Bears, BHS pounded out 15 hits. Three players, Kyleigh Anderson, Kaylie Kwitakowski and Kileigh Pugh, all had three hits.

Anderson had the lone extra-base hit with a double. She also stole a base.

Pugh drove in three runs.

Kylie Lynch, Kennedy Wolfe and Renzy Pethtel had two hits apiece. Wolfe and Pethtel each had two RBIs.

Anderson, Kwiatkowski and Wolfe all scored two runs.

Anderson picked up the win in the pitching circle, striking out 10 in five innings of work.

In the loss to RCB, the Indians finished with six hits. Anderson led the way with two hits and an RBI. Wolfe scored both runs for the Tribe.

Pethtel was tagged with the loss. She struck out five in five innings of work.

"We weren't as aggressive at the plate today as we were last night," Frenzel said following the RCB game. "We have to make sure we come with the same energy every game and every at-bat."

BHS returns to action today on the road against University before closing out Week 1 with home games against Liberty and Morgantown on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
