Multiple Mountaineers earned recognition by the Big 12 Conference for their efforts during the season, as the conference announced today its 2014 postseason awards.

West Virginia senior defensive lineman Shaq Riddick was named the Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year. It marks the second straight year a Mountaineer garnered a Newcomer of the Year award, as Charles Sims was named the league’s Offensive Newcomer of the Year last season.

Riddick ranks No. 5 in the Big 12 with seven sacks on the season. He recorded three sacks and four tackles for loss in West Virginia’s 41-27 upset of then-No. 4 Baylor on Oct. 18, becoming the first Mountaineers since Julian Miller in 2011 to post at least three sacks in a single game.

Senior wide receiver Kevin White earned All-Big 12 First Team distinctions. White set a school record with seven straight games of 100 or more receiving yards to start the season and has 1,318 receiving yards this year, the second most in a single season in school history.

Junior defensive back Karl Joseph, who earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors a year ago, was named to the All-Big 12 First Team. Joseph has started all 37 games of his career and finished the regular season with 82 tackles, including 55 solo stops, four tackles for loss, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and an interception.

Senior offensive lineman Mark Glowinski and sophomore kicker Josh Lambert were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team.

Lambert is a Lou Groza Award finalist and set the NCAA record for field goals made of 40 yards or more in a single season (15). He ranks No. 1 nationally in field goals made per game (2.25) and tied a school record with a 55-yard, game-winning field goal against Texas Tech on Oct. 11.

Glowinski has started all 24 games as a Mountaineer. The senior guard played a key role on an offense that was one of 11 nationally to average more than 500 yards per game.

Riddick, senior wide receiver Mario Alford, senior offensive lineman Quinton Spain, junior linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski and freshman defensive back Daryl Worley earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors.

It marks the second straight season Kwiatkoski and Spain garnered conference honorable mention honors.

The league’s 10 head coaches made the selections without voting for their own players.
