With a sixth-straight state championship still relatively fresh, more honors have arrived for the Bridgeport High School baseball team. Perhaps to no one’s surprise, the Indians dominated the All-Big 10 Conference first team that was announced.

The All-Big 10 team is chosen by a ballot of the league’s coaches. The voting is done prior to the postseason and is based on regular season results.

That coaches chose five members of the Tribe among the 16-team first team. The Indians did not have a second team selection.

Nick Stalnaker, Drew Harbert, Ryan Goff, Vincenzo Cava and Tim Via were all named to the first team. Via, Harbert and Cava are all seniors, while Stalnaker is a junior and Goff is a sophomore.

The three seniors all had strong seasons (numbers are prior to the two state tournament games). Via, chosen as a pitcher, was 6-1 on the year and also earned a win in the Class AA semifinal game against Shady Spring.

Harbert, the first-team designated hitter pick, was the team leader in RBIs with more than 30 this year. He also batted .427. Cava, who had a solid year and was strong as the season progressed, finished had a .352 average at the plate as he was chosen as an outfielder.

Stalnaker earned the nod at first base. The junior who go the surprise start and picked up the win in the state title game, batted a robust .404. Goff, a shortstop, was chosen as an infielder. There was no sophomore jinx for Goff as he batted a crisp .381.

The top individual honors when to Elkins Matt Gainer who was named the pitcher of the year and to Lincoln’s Hunter Moore who was named player of the year. Philip Barbour Coach Jonathon Carpenter was named coach of the year.
