Thanks to Difficult Schedule, BHS Girls Hoops Team Still Listed among Top 15 in Latest 'AA' Standings

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 23, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Although no longer in the top 10, Bridgeport’s girls basketball team is still among the upper echelon teams in Class AA thanks primarily to their strength of schedule.

The 9-7 Indians are ranked No. 13 in ‘AA’ in the latest edition of the MetroNews Girls High School Basketball Power Index. The rankings are based on records and the strength of the record of teams you play and beat. It is a computer-based poll with no human voting.

Bridgeport comes in ranked No. 32 in the state regardless of classification. The Tribe has a strength of schedule of 552.87. Only top-ranked Fairmont Senior (591.52), No. 4 North Marion (564.10) and No. 6 Bluefield (652.7) have schedules listed as more difficult.

BHS had battled Fairmont Senior and North Marion. Both teams upended the Tribe as part of the Indians 9-7 record.

The No. 2 team in Class AA is Wyoming East and the No. 3 squad is James Monroe. Lincoln rounds out the top five in ‘AA’ through the Jan. 22 poll.

Bridgeport is back in action tonight against East Fairmont at home. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Parkersburg is the No. 1 team in Class AAA and in the state. St. Joseph Central is top-ranked in Class A and are listed at No. 5 overall. There are no undefeated teams left in girls’ basketball in the state in any class.
