The Bridgeport High School boys took first place at Saturday’s Mohawk Swim Invitational, held at the West Virginia University Natatorium. The Tribe men finished 100 points over runner-up, Parkersburg South.

The Lady Indians finished second to Wheeling Park; BHS scoring 307 points to the Patriots’ 319.

Other teams represented in boys’ and/or girls’ competition were Morgantown, Buckhannon-Upshur, University, Fairmont Senior, John Marshall, Elkins, Huntington, Wheeling Central, Notre Dame, East Fairmont, Grafton, Doddridge County, Robert C. Byrd and Cabell Midland.
In addition to the team victory, Bridgeport’s boys earned a number of event championships.

Phillip Malenich, Luke Pinti, Mason Titchenal and Reed Smith took first place in the 200-yard medley relay.

Malenich, Smith, Marcel Rodriquez and Keener took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay and Pinti smoked competitors in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Titchenal, Pinti, Rodriquez and Keener teamed up to win the 400-yard freestyle relay, finising nearly 10 seconds ahead of second-place Parkersburg.

Once again, the Indians’ depth helped them stack up so many points.

Second-place finishes included the girls’ 200-yard medley relay: Cheyanne Rohde, Marra Jonson, Darian Spencer and Cheri Signorelli; Keener in the boys’ 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly; Rodriquez in the 100-yard freestyle; Spencer, Lilly Madden, Maria Lacaria and Rohde in the 200-yard freestyle relay and Rohde in the 100-yard backstroke.

The Tribe gathered various other finishes in races which included as many as 32 competitors. See the full results HERE.

The BHS swim team is coached by Jan Grisso and Wendy Madden.

The Tribe will be in action at the YMCA of Harrison County on Dec. 20.
