Tribe Dominates at Rotary Invitational,

The Indians swim team claimed first place at the Rotary Swim Invitational, held Saturday at the Harrison County YMCA. In a field of 11 teams, the Tribe earned 675 points with Washington High School claiming a distant second place.   
The Lady Indians earned 343 points, with Washington in second and Fairmont Senior in third. Philip Barbour was fourth, followed by Notre Dame, Hampshire, Grafton, East Fairmont, Robert C. Byrd and Lincoln.
Bridgeport’s boys claimed the top spot, followed by Washington, RCB, Notre Dame, Hampshire, Grafton, Doddridge, Philip Barbour and East Fairmont.
BHS Coach Jan Grisso said it was exciting come out of the gate for the 2019-20 swim season seeing individual swimmer and team times comparable to what they were last year at season’s end. She is extremely proud of her swimmers.
Bridgeport claimed several first-place finishes, including the 200-yard medley relay team of Cheyanne Rohde, Darian Spencer, Marra Johnson and Cheri Signorelli who broke the meet record with a time of 1:58.67.
On the boys’ side, the Tribe’s Phillip Malenich, Mason Titchenal, Luke Pinti and Reed Smith claimed first place in the same race, recording a time of 1:49.88.
Marcel Rodriquez earned first place in the 200-yard freestyle race, recording a time of 1:58.86. In the 200-yard individual medley, Johnson (2:24.62) finished first for the girls and Pinti (2:18.25) for the boys.
Rohde (26.10) and Malenich (24.31) both claimed first in the 50-yard freestyle race, with Spencer (1:06.85) and Randy Keener (56.04) claiming the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly.
Rodriquez finished first in the 100-yard freestyle and Keener won the 500-yard freestyle event.
Spencer, Lacaria, Lilly Madden and Rohde teamed up to take first place in the girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.90 while Keener, Titchenal, Pinti and Rodriquez combined to win the same event for the boys (1:57.63).
Rohde shined in the 100-yard backstroke event. She finished first with a time of 1:01.74 with teammate Signorelli finishing second (1:10.25). Malenich took first in the boys’ 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.39.
More first-place finishes came in the girls’ and boys’ 100-yard breaststroke races. Johnson swam the grace for the girls in 1:14.87, followed by Madden with a time of 1:17.87. In the boys’ 100-yard breaststroke, Pinti claimed the win in 1:05.50.
Lacaria, Signorelli, Kelsey Dorchak and Johnson combined their best efforts to take first in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:17.16). Rodriquez, Malenich, Titchenal and Keener finished the same race in 3:36.62, claiming another first place for the boys.
