Bridgeport High School tennis teams made a clean sweep of Saturday’s tri match against Robert C. Byrd and Moorefield. The Tribe continues to be undefeated for the season.

BHS boys were 6-1 over RCB and 7-0 over Moorefield. The Lady Indians defeated both their opponents 6-1.

In line 1 singles, Grant DuVall was 8-3 over his Moorefield opponent, but lost to Byrd’s Tavares Richards. DuVall is 9-3 for the season.
In line 2 singles, Ben Holbert went 8-0 in both matches and continued his undefeated streak. He’s now 13-0.

Against Robert C. Byrd:

Brent Sinsel and Tanner Cava were both victorious in their matches. The line 3 and line 4 players were 8-0 and 8-2.

In boys’ doubles, DeVall and Holbert teamed up for a line 1 victory, while Sinsel and Cava won in line 2 and Andrew Barlow and Christian Lehosit in line 3. All three doubles teams went 8-0 over their opposing teams.

In girls’ action, Rachel Lamm won 8-1 over RCB’s Stephanie Sacra. Eleanor Noone lost 8-4 to RCB’s Taylor Lough.

Grace Ebert and Virginia Noone were victorious in their line 3 and line 4 singles matches. Ebert went 8-1 over her RCB opponent and 8-5 over her Moorefield opponent, while Noone went 8-1 and 8-2, respectively.

The Lady Indians racked up a trio of doubles victories; Lamm and Virginia Noone winning 9-7; Eleanor Noone and Ebert 8-2 and Anna DuVall and Chloe Stear 8-0.

Against Moorefield:

DuVall, Sinsel and Cava won 8-2, 8-1 and 8-2 in line 1, 3 and 4 singles play, respectively.

DuVall/Holbert, Sinsel/Cava and Barlow/Lehosit won 8-2, 8-1 and 8-6.

Lamm lost 8-2 in line 1 singles and Eleanor Noone won 8-3 in line 2. Lamm/Noone won 8-5 in line 1 doubles; Eleanor Noone/Ebert won 8-3 and Rachel Steele/Mia Yeager went 8-0.

Coach Dan Oliveto is obviously pleased with his team’s performance to date, coming that Holbert, Ebert and Virginia Noone have been the most consistent standouts.

Saturday’s match was hosted by the Eagles. The Tribe plays Lincoln 4 p.m. today at Deegan Lake.

Tonight’s outcome with Lincoln and a meeting to be held this weekend will determine seedings for regionals, to be played May 1-5 at RCB. Prior to that, the Indians play the final match of the season Tuesday at their home court, taking on Braxton County and play in Big 10 action this weekend at RCB.

“We’re always excited to play Big 10 opponents. It’s very competitive tennis,” Oliveto said.

The Tribe’s toughest competition in the Big 10 will be Lincoln, North Marion, Lewis County and East Fairmont, he said.
