Undrafted WVU Forward Konate Signs with Toronto

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on June 21, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

According to this report from 247sports.com and Mike Casazza, Sagaba Konate had to wait longer than he anticipated, but the former West Virginia forward signed Friday with the world champion Toronto Raptors, according to The Athletic.

Despite popping into some mock drafts near the end of the second round, Konate was not picked in Thursday night's NBA draft. He was quickly and commonly listed among the top available free agents. Konate will join the Raptors for the summer league, which begins on July 5 in Las Vegas.

The Raptors roster is on hold right now as free agent Kawhi Leonard makes up his mind. He doesn't play Konate's position, but Leonard's decision matters. Center Marc Gasol has a player option for the 2019-20 season, and he's already said Leonard's decision will impact his. Additionally, the Raptors used their only draft pick on a center when they chose Miami's Dewan Hernandez with the second-to-last selection.
