West Virginia University Director of Athletics Oliver Luck announced today that WVU and Missouri will play a home-and-home football series, beginning in 2016.

The first game will be played in Morgantown on Sept. 3, 2016, and the second game will be played in Columbia, Missouri, on Sept. 7, 2019.

“I believe this home-and-home series with Missouri will be great for both schools,” Luck said. “Each program will benefit from playing a non-conference game against a team from a highly visible conference, and the fans will be entertained from what I think will be two highly competitive games.”

The two schools have played five times in their football history, with the Tigers owning a 3-2 advantage. The last game of the series was played in 1998 at the Insight.com Bowl in Tucson, Ariz., a 34-31 Tiger win.

WVU and Missouri started playing in a home-and-home series in 1926-27, with the first game in Morgantown, a 27-0 Tiger win, and the second in Columbia, a 13-0 Missouri win. The series picked up in 1993-94 with the West Virginia tying the series, winning both ends, 35-3 in Morgantown in 1993, and 34-10, in Columbia, in 1994.
