According to this report from MetroNews, WVU defensive coordinator Tony Gibson was a guest on Tuesday’s MetroNews ‘Statewide Sportsline’ and looked at the potential impact this coming season from a couple of in-state freshmen.

Gibson referred to former Bridgeport standout and current WVU redshirt-freshman linebacker Dylan Tonkery as an off-the-radar player who he expects to make a significant impact.

Tonkery will have an even bigger role with the injury to starter David Long who will miss at least the first month of the season.

“He’s a football player – that’s what I like,” Gibson said of Tonkery. “He’s obviously a winner and won big in high school.
