By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 16, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Associated Press released its Week 11 men's college basketball poll and the Mountaineers jumped from No. 10 to No. 7 thanks to a pair of wins this past week. The Mountaineers upended previously unbeaten and No. 1 Baylor and followed that up Saturday with a down-to-the-wire win against Texas on the road.

Villanova returned to the No. 1 spot in the standings. Kansas, who WVU will face next week, remained in the No. 2 spot. The Bears fell from No. 1 to No. 6 after losing to the Mountaineers meaning three of the top seven teams in the country are from the Big 12.

At No. 3 is UCLA, while Gonzaga comes in at No. 4 and Kentucky is at No. 5. The Zags are the last remaining unbeaten team in the country at 17-0.

Creighton is tied with WVU for the No. 7 position. Both teams have 1,185 points. North Carolina comes in at No. 9, while Florida State rounds out the top 10 at the No. 10 position.

No other Big 12 teams are in the top 25, but TCU is just on the outside of receiving votes at the No. 26 position. Iowa State and Kansas State also received votes in the poll. WVU visits Kansas State Saturday and hosts Oklahoma Wednesday.
