West Virginia University redshirt junior tight end Jovani Haskins was named to the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List as announced today by the organization.

Haskins played in 12 games in 2018, finishing with 16 catches for 148 yards and one touchdown. His top performance was a four-catch, 33-yard game in West Virginia’s 42-41 win at Texas. He also had three catches for 33 yards against Baylor and two catches for 24 yards, including a career-long 17-yard reception, against Oklahoma.

Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2019 Mackey Award recipient will be announced on December 11, 2019 and then presented live on December 12, 2019 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. All future announcements can be found at www.johnmackeyaward.com.

Three tight ends from the Big 12 Conference are recognized on the watch list: Haskins, Grant Calcaterra (Oklahoma) and Charlie Kolar (Iowa State).

NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position.  A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.
