By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 26, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The West Virginia University baseball team will play an exhibition game vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, Feb. 29, in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The Mountaineers will play an MLB team for what is believed to be the first time in program history at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, the Diamondbacks’ 11,000-seat spring training ballpark built in 2011. Admission to the contest will be free for all fans.

“We are excited to be playing an exhibition game against the Diamondbacks,” WVU coach Randy Mazey said. “Our players and coaching staff are excited, and it’s a great opportunity for our team to be on the same field as Major League players, and to see exactly the level of baseball they are striving to achieve.”

WVU’s game against the Diamondbacks is the fourth contest of an 11-day, eight game roadtrip for the Mountaineers that begins with three games at UNLV, Feb. 26-28, and concludes with a four-game series at Hawaii from March 3-6.

The exhibition game will be the seventh game of the season for the Mountaineers, while the Diamondbacks will open up Cactus League play two days later on March 1.

The Mountaineers were originally scheduled to play UNLV for a fourth time on Feb. 29, before the game against the Diamondbacks was added. The complete 2016 WVU baseball schedule can be found at WVUsports.com.
