College football’s top kicking award, the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.” One of those players was West Virginia University’s Josh Lambert, who also was recognized by the Big 12.

In a press release from PBC Sports Commission, it states that “West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen had every confidence sophomore kicker Josh Lambert would make the 55 yard field goal attempt needed to defeat Texas Tech on Saturday. That bomb was Lambert’s third in three attempts from more than 50 yards this season and capped a string of 17 unanswered points to give the Mountaineers their 37-34 victory.

“The Garland, Texas native leads the nation in field goals from at least 50 yards and is tied for the national lead in field goals made with 14. It was his second game-winner this season, the third of his career. Lambert also connected from 42 and 38 yards and was perfect in four PAT tries. His 64 points lead all WVU scorers and place him third nationally in scoring by kickers.”

Along with the Groza Award acknowledged, Lambert was named the Big 12’s co-special team’s player of the week. In the Big 12 release, it states that “Josh Lambert connected on 3-of-4 field goals at Texas Tech, including the game-winning 55-yarder as time expired to give West Virginia the 37-34 victory. He also hit from 42 and 38 yards. The 55-yarder tied the school record set in 1984 by Paul Woodside and was the longest field goal made on the road by a Mountaineer. It was the second game-winning field goal hit by Lambert this season as he hit a 47-yarder at Maryland with no time left.”
