The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending October 18.

 

About the Award: This is the 11th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SHAQ RIDDICK, WEST VIRGINIA

RS Senior, Defensive Line, Akron, OH/Buchtel Shaq Riddick had a big defensive game as the Mountaineers defeated 4th-ranked Baylor, 41-27.  Riddick recorded five tackles (4 solo), including four for losses and three quarterback sacks as West Virginia improved to 5-2, 3-1 in the Big 12.

 

Notes: Shaq Riddick is the sixth West Virginia player to earn Walter Camp Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the second this season (QB Clint Trickett, Sept. 14).

 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CODY KESSLER, USC

RS Junior, Quarterback, Bakersfield, CA/Centennial Cody Kessler completed 17-of-24 passes for 318 yards and set a USC single-game record with seven touchdown passes as the Trojans defeated Colorado, 56-38.  Kessler threw for 159 yards and four touchdown passes in the first quarter as USC raced to a 28-0 lead.  With the win, USC improved to 5-2, 4-1 in the Pac-12.

 

Notes: Cody Kessler is the fifth USC player to earn Walter Camp Player of the Week honors since 2004; and the first to be honored since linebacker Malcolm Smith (Nov. 29, 2009).
