WVU's Staten on Mid-Season Watch List for Lute Olson Award for Nation's Top D-I Basketball Player
By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 21, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com
The Lute Olson award Mid-Season Watch List was announced on Wednesday. The finalists for the 2015 Lute Olson Award will be announced in March. Freshman are not eligible for the award.
The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player who has played at least two seasons. Freshmen can be named to the season-ending All-America team, but are not eligible to receive the Player of the Year honors. West Virginia University senior guard Juwan Staten is on the mid-season list.
The award is named in honor of coaching great Lute Olson, who won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona. During that stretch he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997.
The 2015 recipient will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet on April 3 in Indianapolis, site of the 2015 men's NCAA Basketball Championship.
