The 2017 West Virginia State American Legion Baseball Tournament will officially get started Wednesday at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex and run through Saturday, July 29.

The event is yet another showcase event for the complex. Bridgeport Legion will serve as the host team in the event.

Those attending will be treated to a six-team, double elimination event. The tournament will feature six teams - none of which will receive a bye - and the games will be played in an NCAA format.

Bridgeport will be joined by five other teams from across the state. The other competitors looking for a chance to win the state tournament include Elkins, South Charleston, Morgantown, Wheeling and Romney.

For locals, Bridgeport will play the final game on opening day. The contest will begin at 7 p.m. against Elkins.

Activity will actually begin this evening (Tuesday, July 25). At 6 p.m., a picnic will be held for the players and coaches and then everyone will have a little bit of fun as a Home Run Derby will be held at 7:30 p.m.
