The Grapevine: 2023's Women of Distinction Chosen

By Rosalyn Queen on January 26, 2023 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Now that the holidays are over most of us are busy continuing with volunteer work on our non-profit organizations.  If you stop and think most of these organizations are vital to those individuals who rely on assistance to supplement their families with food.

A meeting of the Clarksburg Farmers Market was held last Friday.  Attending the meeting was Bill Yoke, Betty Waddy, Malissa Fleming, and myself.  Fleming announced that there will be a Valentines Market at The Uptown Event Center on Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon.  Tentatively, there are 19 vendors scheduled.  A light lunch of hot dogs will be available for those attending.

Yoke announced that the Clarksburg Farmers Market will open on Saturday, May 13, in the parking lot of Farmers Supply at Eastpointe. It is anticipated that there will be an increase in vendors participating. For more information, contact Bill Yoke.

The Progressive Women’s Association met on Friday, Jan. 18 at noon at the Uptown Event Center. It was reported that the Women of Distinction had been chosen and will be honored at a luncheon on Friday, Feb. 27 at noon at the Uptown Event Center.

These woman are accomplished in their careers, but are being honored for the volunteer efforts in making our community a better place to live. The dinner is being held in conjunction with Black Culture Month and in honoring these African American women.  Due to the popularity of this event reservations are recommended by calling 304-624-6881.

The PWA will be selling Easter Bread.  The bread will be available for pickup on April 4.  Orders should be placed prior to that date. The cost of the bread will be $10 a loaf.

The PWA is participating in the Community Dinner Program and they will be providing a free dinner on Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at the PWA.

It was announced that the facility is available for rent for community events.  A state-of-the-art kitchen is available for preparation of foods.

There has been some rumbling going on about the functioning of the parking lot on the upper side of the Uptown Event Center.  We understand that it is just not clear as the proper way to pay for using the facility as there is no attendant there.  Several individuals have been booted, and it is quite expensive to get the boot off.  Do not let this interfere with your using the Uptown Event Center.

I think that we are still in for more winter, but the good news is that spring will be here soon. I am not sure what is going on with COVID but keep safe.  Take care, curl up with a good book, and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
