The Grapevine: A Weekend Full of the Arts and Monday Morning Woes

By Rosalyn Queen on July 29, 2014 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

It is a Monday morning and I am sitting at Panera Bread on Emily Drive because my computer is being repaired and I can't use my internet at home. I am trying to send this column using my Ipad and I am not doing too well.  So bear with me and I will try to get a short column out.

Technology is great when we can make it work properly. When I unhooked my computer to take it to Staples for an upgrade, I unhooked the internet service (which I didn't intend to do).  Now, I cannot use any of my devices.  Hopefully, I will be functional and back up on-line by next week.

I extend my sympathy to the family of Rob Walker.  He was such a great friend.

It was nice to attend the Glen Elk Wine & Jazz Festival over the weekend.  David and I stopped by for a little while on Friday.  On our way home, we drive through downtown Clarksburg to find a crowd of people waiting to get into Main Street Cafe.  I found out that the Cafe was hosting "The Fearless Fools" comedy team.  Vintage Theater Company, Jason Young and Steve Goff have put together a very funny group of comedians.  They have a real following.  There were more than 90 people enjoying their show at the Main Street Cafe.  With the Jazz Stroll and other fun activities, it’s nice to see people spending time in downtown Clarksburg.

I want to call your attention to the lovely collection of Queen Ann's Lace growing alongside the road.  This is such a beautiful plant growing wild in so much of West Virginia.  I always think of Merle Moore at this time. She always said that if she ever got married she would carry a bouquet of Queen Anne's Lace.  Merle was the longtime and very popular director of the Clarksburg Public Library.  She was also instrumental in starting the WV Italian Heritage Festival.   Merle is now living in her hometown of Webster Springs. She is celebrating her birthday this week.

Take care and until next week "Now You Have Heard It through The Grapevine"
