The Grapevine: A look at My Second Shot Reaction to COVID Vaccine and Shout out to Health Department

By Rosalyn Queen on February 04, 2021 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

It seems that January has been a long drawn-out month but as I think about this I wonder if there is going to be any light at the end of the tunnel.  I cannot see that we are nearing the end of this pandemic, but maybe with the administration of the vaccine we will soon have it conquered.

I have received my second shot and I got mine from the Clarksburg-Harrison Health Department.  I especially want to commend them.  They were friendly and very efficient.  Both times I was in and out on less than 10 minutes.

I was one of the few who had a few complications, but it was only a headache and achy bones, which lasted for a few days.  I pray the shot will build an immunity in my body that will keep me from getting the virus.  I am still fighting this alone feeling but am conquering it a little each day.  I try to stay on until I get that closed up crazy feeling and then I go to a restaurant or to the Progressive Woman's Association.  I am still reading and that fills in some time for me. My only advice is for you to hang on.

The PWA is trying to move forward with keeping our building open and serving the community with our food bank.  Our budget has suffered from rentals that just are not happening due to the pandemic.  At our last meeting we decided to have a membership drive.  We set a goal of 25 new members during the month of February.  If you have been a previous member, please pay your dues and you will be counted in our goal. If you are new and are interested in joining our group, the dues are $25 per year.  Please call 304-624-6881 to fill out a membership application and an address to mail your dues.  We have reduced our budget as much as possible, but we still have taxes, insurance, and utilities.  Your membership will help us meet these expenses.

The PWA will also be having an Easter Bread Bake sale. Once again, we have been able to secure Fiesta bowls and we will fill them with Easter Bread for a unique Easter gift.  Members will be baking the bread. And it will be available the week before Easter.  We will announce the date later.  If you wish to pre order, please call the PWA.

Just a reminder that Lent will begin in the very near future.  This will be an excellent time for us to get our inner lives in order.  If there is one thing that we should have learned during this dramatic time, it is that we are not in control and if we can find comfort, it will be in trusting in someone bigger than we are.

Keep the faith, keep upbeat and remember that this will not last forever.  Stay healthy and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
