The Grapevine: Be Careful with Those Online Orders

By Rosalyn Queen on January 02, 2020 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

As I get ready to write the last column for this year or perhaps the first column in the new year, I pondered what I should write.  Should I write about New Year's resolutions or should I write about the great happenings in 2019. I could fill an entire column with either of these subjects, but I have decided that I need to share with you my experience with ordering gifts on line.

Around the middle of November, I decided that I would order a few Christmas dresses to wear to the events I would be attending during the holidays.  I saw a link that seemed to be endorsed by two of my friends and this made me believe this Web site would be a good place to order from.  I wanted a holiday dress to wear to several holiday get togethers.  In the mix of things, I also ordered a Thanksgiving shirt.

The first problem that I encountered was that the shirt got here after Thanksgiving.  So, I had no place to wear a turkey shirt.  I put it away for next year.

The next issue occurred about three weeks later when I received three of the dresses. I neglected to say they were about $28 a piece. The dresses came in an envelope that fit in my mailbox.  I was still optimistic, but after I opened them, I found them to be made of material comparable to my nightgowns.  One had a big Santa head placed about my stomach area, another had ugly reindeer running across the front of the dress and the descriptions get worse.  Well, I decided I would wear two of them, which provided a good laugh for those attending the events.

Now for the rest of the story.  I am still receiving dresses, about ten in total.  There is no return address on the package as they were shipped to me from China.  I checked with the post office and it would cost me approximately what the dress cost to send it back.  I contacted my credit card company and I think that they may credit my account.  Someone suggested I use the dresses as nightgowns, but I was worried I might wake up to this giant Santa and really become scared.  I am going to pack these away and decide next year what to do with them.

Needless to say, I will be a little more careful about what I order online and from who.  A lesson well learned and I do not know how costly it will be for me.   My story to you: Be careful what you order online.

Well, I had a wonderful holiday season with my family and friends.  Our cousins party had approximately 100 people there and it was great to be able to interact with some that I had not seen in several years.

I want to wish all my readers a Happy and especially a Healthy New Year.  Thank you for continuing to read the Grapevine and until next year.....Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.
