By Rosalyn Queen on November 28, 2019 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

In a recent appeal made by the Progressive Women's Association of Harrison County for the community to help restock their food pantry, the appeal was met by the Bridgeport Middle School.  A recent movement of the students, parents, And Bridgeport community headed up by Bridgeport Middle School principal, David Mazza and numerous teachers resulted in the collection of many staples to replenish the food pantry located in the Uptown Event Center and run by the PWA.

The food items will allow the organization to meet the needs of the community during the holiday season.  Many volunteers gathered at the Bridgeport Middle School on Friday to load the food items in donated trucks and unload them at the food pantry located on Washington Avenue in Clarksburg.  Rosalyn Queen, PWA President said, “Many individuals in the area will enjoy a holiday season filled with food due to the generosity of the community and the leadership of the Bridgeport Middle School staff.” Our sincere appreciation to this group.”

The PWA also maintains a food pantry for pets and is welcoming donations for pets to be distributed to pet owners.  The Pet Pantry is also located in TheUptown Event Center.  The Pantry will also accept litter toys and pet sweaters for distribution.  For more information call 304-624-6881.

A Quarter Auction will be held by the PWA on Sunday, December 8, at 2:00 at the Center.  Proceeds from this fundraiser will support all the programming of the PWA.

The year end membership meeting of the PWA will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 6:00.  A holiday dinner will be served to all members and guests.  The installation of officers will take place and special holiday music will be presented by Jason Young and members of his group.

Our annual pita piata  baking party will be held the day after Thanksgiving. Although I am aware that there are several places where you can purchase these Italian delicacies, it is my understanding that this enables families to get together and enjoy preparations for the holidays. Plan on an event with your family members.  Not only will you be making delicacies but you will also be making memories.

Last year, my children decided to host a Cousin's Christmas Party and it proved to be such a success that plans are underway for this year's party.  A wonderful way to celebrate the holidays.

Make plans to enjoy Thanksgiving today and getting ready for Christmas.  Stay healthy, warm and most of all happy and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
