The Grapevine: Celebrating Easter with Family and the Presence of a Great Granddaughter as a Bonus

By Rosalyn Queen on April 04, 2024 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Easter Sunday found us together as a family.  My son Mike and I attended mass at the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarksburg.  Father Casey Mahone delivered a very meaningful sermon on this holy day.  Also present was my sister, Joan and her family.  Her three children and all their offsprings were there.  She traditionally has an Easter egg hunt following mass.

We had the traditional Easter observance with our family members. My daughter Lisa and husband Andy spent the day with their daughter, Miranda in Washington.  Our group included Mike and son Ben and his wife Meredith, daughter Leslie and husband Dixon Pruitt, along with Holli, Payton, and Ryan Jarvis from Parkersburg and our patriarch Fray and me. We had an early dinner at the Bridgeport Convention Center.  They had a wonderful buffet which included a breakfast buffet.

It has been a long time since we have had a baby in attendance. And what a difference it made.  Payton is the daughter of Holli and Ryan and the granddaughter of my son Marty.

First and foremost this was the first time in a long time that I had the opportunity to purchase a frilly, girlie dress and did I enjoy seeing her in it.  I also have another great granddaughter, Avery, who is the daughter of Kathy and Marty II.

Gifts are not important to me.  Their presence suits me fine.  But I do want to share with you a unique gift that I received.  Since my love of flowers is known by all it is not unusual for me to receive several bouquets.  This year one of my urns was filled with my ever-loving basil.  Leslie and Dixon decided that I would enjoy this twice as much.   Once watching it grow and once using it in my sauce and tomato salad.  You do not realize how a little creativity can make us old boogers happy.

Hopefully I did not want to bore you, but I wanted to share with you the importance of family gatherings.  In this time and age, we must all make a little effort to make these gatherings happen.  With our busy schedules, set time aside for family.

During this most holy time of year, I wish all of you much happiness. My condolences to the family of Janice Brunett. What a friend she was.

Take care, get ready for spring and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
