The Grapevine: Clarksburg Famers Market Announces Opening Date and Talk of Lovely Area Rainbow

By Rosalyn Queen on April 20, 2023 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

A sure sign that we are headed into the summer season is the opening of the Clarksburg Farmers Market.  The Board of Directors of the market has announced that the opening will be Friday, May 13, 2023, at 9 a.m.  The Market will be held in the Tractor Supply parking lot on Emily Drive and will run through 1 p.m.

It will then run from May 13 through mid-October.  Generally, there are about 20  vendors with a variety of different produce for sale. This Mother’s Day Market will feature flowers as well as any available produce.

A special event is being planned for the opening day.  It will start out with a ribbon cutting by Clarksburg Mayor James Marino.  Music will be supplied by a local musician.

A special event being planned for the Mother’s Day opening market will be a free kids activity of planting a flower for a special gift for their special mother.  The committee is working with the Clarksburg Public Library to set up a booth where the children can select a vase and flower and follow the entire process of planting the flower.

They will select their holder, start will a few stones for the proper amount of water, take the flower from the seed container and place it in the vase and place potting soil around the seedling. It is the hope of the committee to get the children interested in planting vegetables or flowers throughout the summer.  We hope this will be the beginning of little farmers.  Bows will be supplied to finish decorating the flower vase.

The library will be supplying a children's book for each participant. Local Clarksburg businesses are supporting this project by donating items needed for the children's activity.

William Yoke, Farmers Market treasurer, is serving as the chair of the Market.  Betty Waddy is the President of the Farmers Market.  The committee invites you to join them at the first Market for 2023 to support the local vendors and enjoy the other activities and to be sure to bring the kiddies with you.

There has been much said about the beautiful rainbow that appeared over Clarksburg on Friday, April 14.  I interpret it to mean that all of us are pots of gold to someone and we are here for the taking.

The Roosevelt-Wilson class of 1957 met for lunch this week and it was great to be able to reminisce about our high school days.  The Sons and Daughters of Italy also met this week, and the club is really growing.  The new president is Rocky Romano.

See you at the market, stay healthy, stay happy and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
