Fall is upon us. The leaves are starting to turn, mushrooms are coming up and football season has

started.

 

You will find me every Saturday watching the WVU games that are televise.  And on Sunday, I plan my day around the Steelers game. Lately my son, Mike, and I have been having lunch at different establishments to watch the game. Last week we chose Marino Brother's - the lovely restaurant located in the old Sons of Italy building owned by Jimmy and Frank Marino located on Baltimore Avenue in Glen Elk.

 

I would be remiss if I did not mention what a wonderful pizza they have. While there are lots of restaurants with good pizza, I always thought that Twin Oaks had the best pizza in the area.  But now their title is being challenged by Marino's.  Marino's pizza has a wonderful sauce and their crust is fabulous.

 

While having lunch and watching the game at Marino Brother's,  I ran into Joanne Loretta.  Joanne is a long time family friend and I so enjoyed the visit we were able to have.

 

 I will report next week on the place we choose to watch WVU to take on Kansas.

 

I mentioned mushrooms and although I have not received any yet, I understand they are up. The mushrooms that my family enjoys the most come up this time of the year as the temperature changes from hot days to cool evenings. I hope they will be as plentiful as they were last year. There are still a few fall festivals left to attend.  These community events are always a great way to enjoy the early fall and a wonderful way to enjoy our state.

 

This past week we lost a permanent fixture in the East View community. Joe Woods succumbed suddenly last week and we were all shocked at this untimely death of this young man. Joe was raised from a toddler in the East View area. From the time he was six years old he could be found almost daily at our home. He was a very large boy and had a fear of going up and down steps. He would scoot down the steps and always find an alternate route to get back up.

 

We had a little stool for him and he would set for hours and weed along the walks, flower beds and driveway. As he got older he became independent and maintained a home of his own. You could find him daily getting on the bus and going to the local grocery stores for the specials. He usually enjoyed lunch at Ryan's. It is hard for me to believe he is gone and. I will miss him.

 

The Cultural Foundation's season will be starting soon and I did not think that they could top last year's programming but it lookslike they have. Email the Cultural. Foundation of Harrison County for information on their schedule and how to get tickets.

 

It is time to start planning holiday parties.  I hope you will consider scheduling the Uptown Event Center (the former YWCA on Washington Avenue in Clarksburg) for your company's Christmas party or for family get-togethers over the holidays. For information call304 624 6881.
