The Grapevine: Flea Market, Food Sales and More On

By Rosalyn Queen on March 25, 2021 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This week I am going to brief you on what is going on at The Progressive Women's Association.  Now that Spring is here and it seems that we might be headed down the other side of the hill of the pandemic, we are anxious to get back in the swing of things.  It has been a long year and we have tried to succeed as most other groups have.  It may not be over yet, but we are hoping to be optimistic and move forward.

We continued to keep our food pantry open and have served thousands of Harrison County residents every week for the past year.  We have been able to do this through the generosity of our residents and businesses.  The YWPA has manned the outdoor pantry for the homeless.  There are many visitors, mostly at night and the pantry is kept full to serve those in need.  We have also been able to supply pet food to pet owners due to the generosity of local pet stores.

To all of these people, there are no questions asked.  If they have a need we meet it.

This past Friday we had a members’ meeting and finalized plans for our Easter egg and Easter Bread sale.  The sale will be held on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 at the Uptown Event Center.  The chocolate peanut butter eggs will be sold in Fiesta bowls with Easter wrap and will sell for $10.00.  The Easter bread will sell for $10.00 for a loaf or for two doll babies.  There will be other home baked items for sale to help complete your Easter dinner.  To pre-order call 304-624-6881.  Our famous PWA hot dogs will also be for sale.

On Saturday, May 1 the YWPA will hold a flea market and on Sunday, May 2 the PWA will sponsor a spring bazaar.  If you are interested in participating, please call 304-624-6881.

In observance of our 100th anniversary celebration we will be sponsoring a 2021 Membership Challenge.  It is our goal to get 100 new members by the time of our fall celebration.  The dues are $25 per year and every new member who supports us either financially or with donated time will have the opportunity to use our facility for a family get together free. We welcome both men and women as members of our organization.

In order to serve our entire membership, our next meeting will be held on April 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Uptown Event Center.  Snacks will be available for all present. We will make our meeting as short as possible in order that those with families may get home.  Please feel free to contact our director, Elinda Carson for any questions.

Be sure to get your Easter goodies from us, stay healthy, stay safe and until next week “Now You Have heard It Through The Grapevine.”
