The Grapevine: Happy Valentines Day to All and Some February Birthday Wishes for Family, Many Others

By Rosalyn Queen on February 04, 2020 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

February has arrived and it hardly seems possible that we are in the second month of this year.  I always love February, maybe it is because it is the birth month of my daughters or maybe because it is the month of love.  There comes a time in our lives when we realize how important love is in our lives.  It is a two way street.  We give as much as we get and sometimes we have to give more but the rewards are great.

Happy Valentines Day to all my friends and a HAPPY Birthday to Ben Queen and to Leslie Pruitt and Lisa and Andy Lang and and the rest of you who will celebrate your birthday in February.

This past week I had a wonderful unplanned dinner with Rosemary And Dink Yurko, Gary and Debbie Marano, Mary Katherine and Ron Turner and Debbie Staud.  At 5:30 p.m. I get a call, am ready at 6:30 p.m. and off we go to the Wonder Bar.  I had forgotten just how great the steaks are there, but the greasiest thing of the evening was the conversation with these great friends.  Rosemary, Debbie and I had a wonderful time reminiscing about the Italian Festival fashion shows way back when. What a gift to have such wonderful friends.  This is what it is all about.

I know I have mentioned to you that many times my son Mike comes home on weekends and is kind of in charge of me giving the others a respite from parental duties.  One of our favorite activities is going to the local plays presented by our own local groups.  We went to see a Shakesbeerian play at the Best Western which was presented by The Vintage Theatre Company of Clarksburg. This was a great evening and the food was delicious.  I want to encourage you all to support these groups by attending these plays.

At the event we were made aware of the West Virginia Bard Association which was founded in memory of Stephen Brooks.  Funding from this Association has helped forward the work of the Rustic Mechanicals.  The parent Company of this group is the Vintage Theatre Company. This group is now in the process of soliciting members.  Anyone interested in joining should call Jason Young at 304-203-3945.  He will also discuss membership levels and benefits. Consider becoming a member.

A reminder of the Women of Distinction luncheon on February 14 at noon at the Uptown Event Center.  Marjorie Fuller will be the speaker and ten African American women from Harrison County will be honored. Cal. 304-624-6881 for reservations. A special birthday observance  of Susan B. Anthony’s 200 birthday will be held with a special cake.  The public is welcome.  This event is sponsored by the Progressive Women’s Association of Harrison County whose mission is to empower women and advance projects to help the community.

Happy February to everyone and “ Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
