The Grapevine: Hosting a Business Event, Gardening Season is Here and Well Wishes to Class of 2022

This past week The Progressive Women's Association of Harrison County hosted the Business After Hours; an event sponsored by the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce.  The event was held at the Uptown Event Center.

The members of the PWA were the perfect hosts with a room decorated to blend in with country music star Ricky Skaggs’ concert being held that night.  The dining room was set up in a semi-formal style with white table covers and chair covers enhanced with red bows.  Country themed centerpieces decorated each table.  The menu featured barbecue, meatballs, hams, cheese, fruit, cake, and drinks.

The event has become very popular and was attended by approximately 50 people.  It certainly is a great place to interact with other businesspeople in our area.  It has become necessary for individuals to become acquainted with each other in the event that they can work together to enhance their businesses.

Sponsors of the event were Davis Funeral Home, State Distributors, Sam’s Club as the door prize, two tickets to “Italian Bred” were donated by the Robinson Grand Theater for the Arts.  Elinda Carson, PWA Director, said she was thrilled with the turnout and the support from the sponsors and hoped that those attending would plan to use the PWA facility for their next event.

  • Garden time is here, and I want to encourage you to plan a garden in your own yard.  Come this fall, if inflation continues to hit us, we will be glad to have those fresh vegetables and hopefully some that we will have canned. Some to be used this winter.   And here is another thought, when planning your gift list for Christmas why not fix up a basket with a jar of tomatoes, peppers, and some jelly.  What a wonderful gift
  • You know we talked about the use of parchment paper when we’re making Easter Bread, well here is another use for it.  If you have purchased too much cheese and need to freeze some, wrap it tightly in parchment paper, place it in a freezer bag and freeze it for approximately two months.  This method works best for cheeses like provolone and mozzarella.
  • Congratulations to all the graduates.  May the next step in your life be filled with happiness and success.  Remember the people in Uvalde, Texas in your Prayers.
Stay healthy and get ready for a wonderful summer, take care and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
