The Grapevine: My Sons, Now Fathers, Stepped up to Assist with their Mother During Time of Father's Day

With all that is going on in my life I neglected to write a column on Father’s Day. So first a belated Happy Father’s Day to all you fathers out there.

I know that most of you were treated to your favorite meal either out or at home prepared by your family. Perhaps most of you received a gift and many of you were surrounded by your family.

As we get older that circle increases from 2 or 3 kids we had to the spouses, the grandchildren and even a few great grandchildren.  It is hard for us to make them understand how much they mean us and the best gift of all is sharing the day with them. Time and a hug mean more than the most expensive gift you can get.

I want to share a little story with you. About my sons Mike and Marty who are fathers, but who took the time this past week to take care of their mother.  Lisa and Leslie were on lengthy vacations. And of course, not realizing what was happening at home.

It was not a life-saving incident, but it was going to require care from a second or third party.  These two boys, realizing they were in charge and their sisters were not here took charge and executed the tasks at hand to get me to surgery, back and forth to the hospital, another surgery and care at home.  It is not over yet but part of my recovery will be attributed to their care.

I thought about taking over and getting family and friends, but I just let them take over and it made me so proud.  I am sure that there is much more to be done down this road, but I feel safe and proud of my sons’ care. On this Father’s Day I am so thankful for two loving, caring sons.  Happy Father’s Day boys and to all you fathers out there.

An update on the eye surgery.  Had it done for the second time and am hoping it will take.  Prayers from all my readers.

West Virginia Day came, and I hope you observed it in some way.  Soon the Fourth of July will be here. and I truly hope we will have fireworks, that is the kid in me.  We have a lot to celebrate this year.

The state is planning a lot of celebrations this year and all the campgrounds are open.  Treat yourself to a state vacation.

Take care, stay healthy and safe and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
