The Grapevine: Taking a Look, and Reviewing Work, of the Young Progressive Women's Association

By Rosalyn Queen on October 13, 2022 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Young Progressive Women's Association, which is the young women's part of the PWA recently held a fundraiser to raise funds for Bonnie’s Bus.  The group sponsored a Pancake Brunch, which was held at the Uptown Event Center.  All funding from the event was donated to Bonnie’s Bus to use for equipment used on the bus.

This event was held in honor of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Bonnie’s Bus travels throughout the state providing mammograms for those in need of one.

The YPWA is the youth group associated with the PWA.  They are young teenagers from local schools who are honor students.  Throughout the year they meet regularly and decide on projects they want to do for the community.  The sponsor allows the group to decide on the fundraisers they want to hold and the community projects they want to support.

The group is best known for their Christmas project.  They decorate each of the residents’ doors for Christmas at the West Virginia Veteran’s Nursing Facility.  They also supply a Christmas stocking for each resident.  The group gets the stockings and fills them with items that each resident can use. They will also be participating in the Trunk or Treat event in Clarksburg.  The group asks for support from the community to help fill the stockings. If you would like to join this group or for more information, call the PWA at 304-624-6881

As a cancer survivor I urge each of you to schedule your mammogram.  You know early detection is the answer to beating cancer.  We can beat this deadly disease.

I hope that you all got to stop by the Clarksburg Farmers market.  This was the last weekend for the year.  They have certainly had a great arrangement of West Virginia grown produce.

Fall is here in all its beauty. Schedule a drive out in the mountains to enjoy the beauty of the trees. This is a free gift to all of us.  By the way mushrooms are out.  My great friends Mary and John Barnet brought me a nice mess and I have been busy getting them canned.

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes.  I am now 83 and live every day to its fullest.  You will never know how much your thoughtfulness meant to me.

Take care, Covid is still here so take care and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”, which is the young women's part of the PWA recently held a fundraiser to raise funds for Bonnie’s Bus.  The group sponsored a Pancake Brunch, which was held at the Uptown Event Center.  All funding from the event was donated to Bonnie’s Bus to use for equipment used on the bus.
