The Grapevine: The Governor and Babydog at Final State of State Address and also a Personal Encounter

By Rosalyn Queen on January 18, 2024 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Recently, West Virginians were able to view Governor Jim Justice delivering his State of the State Address.  It was delivered in the State Capitol with all the Delegates, Senators, Justices, various board members, elected officials and a balcony of invited guests on hand.

Seated in the front was the First Lady and their two children.  Also, seated in the front row seat was the governor’s companion, Babydog.  He is a cute little fellow, very well trained and seems to cling to every word the governor speaks.

On this evening, Babydog was able to hear his owner speak about the future of West Virginia for 2024. He heard him speak about his funding for roads, education, and tourism.  He outlined his vision for foster care, for moms and babes, for state parks, for veterans, and for reduction in taxes, and many other items.

Babydog was glad to welcome the governor’s girls’ basketball team as they sat in the balcony.

He was equally pleased to listen to the governor explain a saying his father said to him and that he has applied to many different circumstances in his life.  The saying is “Keep sawing the wood.” The governor shared many instances when he applied it and many times, he encouraged others to apply it.

The speech ended to a standing ovation and Babydog who laid on his chair throughout the speech seemed to understand that he too was to get up, and he did.  The relationship between this dog and his master paints a loving picture.

Now it is time for the Governor and the Legislature to get to work.  Just a footnote; I was so proud to see Senator Ben Queen, my grandson, enter the venue right before the Governor.

Stay safe, watch the weather, and until next week, “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”

Editor’s Note: Pictured is Babydog giving the blog’s author, Rosalyn Queen, a kiss, at a ceremony last year at the North Central West Virginia Airport.
