The Grapevine: Two Individuals Honored in "Generation Next: 40 Under 40"

By Rosalyn Queen on March 24, 2015 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

I want to call attention to two special people who were recently honored. They are Kathy Folio who was recently recognized by the Clarksburg Publishing Company as a "Woman of Influence".  I knew her father Bernard Folio well and I know just how proud he is of Kathy and the work she does to carry on the family business. The family continues to support many community projects and I thank Kathy and the family for their involvement.

The next individual is Jason Young. Jason is from Bridgeport and he is very active in the promotion of the performing arts.  He seems to always be involved in directing plays and musicals in our local high schools.  If you're lucky, you just might find him participating in one himself.  Jason was honored last week by The State Journal as one of the "Generation Next: 40 under 40".

Congratulations to both of these individuals.

Well, you should be getting ready for Easter Sunday. I  hope you were able to participate in some Lenten activities.  I have been thinking about Easter dinner.  At first I thought perhaps I would try something different for the  menu.  But after some thought I decided that I would just continue with the traditional menu.  I really feel that this is what memories are made of.  What could replace a wonderful baked ham topped with pineapple and brown sugar. sweet potatoes topped with marshmallows, pickled eggs, coconut desert and all the rest of the traditional food that rounds out the menu. We must have plenty of Easter bread to eat with the meal and then later in the day with the left over ham.  I urge you to continue your family traditions so that your children and grandchildren will have wonderful memories. Of course this is not the time to discontinue the peanut butter eggs and the chocolate bunnies along with the "peeps."  Memories are wonderfull especially when you cannot have the real thing. I hope you will all start the day with church services and  maybe some of you women will wear the traditional Easter bonnet which seems to have gone along the way side and then spend the rest of the day with those you love,  Happy Easter to all my readers.

I offer my condolences to Sam Wiland and his family on the loss of his father.  Sam was such a good son in seeing to care of his father.

A special birthday wish to Kelly Keister Shuman and all you April babies.

I made my first batch of Easter bread this past week, it seemed to be good but I think I have made better.  I took about half of the dough and mixed it with raisins,  My husband David says this was the way his mother made it. I really look forward to toasting it with a lot of butter and a fresh hot cup of coffee. No wonder our immigrant parents were always happy with all this wonderful food.

I have really enjoyed watching the Mountaineers play basketball.  It has made these cold days go by faster.  I am so happy for the team and Coach Huggins that they have made it to the Sweet 16.  I wish them well but want them to know that I am always proud to be a Mountaineer.

It will soon be garden time and I look forward to getting out and playing in the dirt.

Take care, keep in touch with me and until next week "Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine."
