Design Phase has Begun to Fix Damage Sustained Over a Year Ago to Clarksburg's Second Street Bridge

For more than a year, the U.S. Route 50 on ramp from Second Street has been closed after it was hit by a vehicle.
The incident happened April 10, 2023. On that day, a tractor-trailer hauling an excavator struck the bridge, which led to the closure of one of the two lanes as those looking to exit Route 50 onto Second Street can still do so.
According to the City of Clarksburg’s Facebook page, “plans are currently being made by the West Virginia Division of Highways to replace the damaged beams underneath the bridge. According to Tracy Brown, state bridge engineer for the West Virginia Division of Highways, the project is now in the design phase, and specifics regarding the construction timeline have yet to be determined.”
While that means the wait will continue, it also means steps are being taken to get it fixed. Visit the City of Clarksburg’s Facebook page for regular updates on various projects and events in Bridgeport’s neighboring city.
