First Festival of 2021 Announces Cancelation Due to COVID-19 as Pickens Maple Syrup Event Scrapped

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 19, 2021 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

What could be the first of several in 2021 events to be called off, and what appears to be the first area event to suffer two cancelations as a result of COVID-19, is in the books.

According to the Pickens, West Virginia Maple Syrup Festival Facebook Page, the 2021 event has been called off. Pickens is a small town in Randolph County and typically hosts the event the third full weekend in March.

The following is the post:

"Well, here we are again faced with a decision in which no matter what decision we make, many people will not agree with the decision.  After guidance from WV Fairs & Festivals, guidelines from the state, being a primarily indoor festival, and the realization of limited community volunteers we deeply regret that we have decided to cancel the festival again this year.

"Once again, crafters & vendors that have sent in a deposit, you will receive your checks back as we did not yet deposit them.  Once again, those who had secured spots for the 2020 festival will receive applications first for the 2022 festival.  If you are a crafter or vendor that would like to list your product here, feel free to do so.

"Maybe if circumstances cooperate, we could try to do something a little later in the year.  If we find this possible, we will post information on this page.  If that does not happen, we hope to see everyone March 19th and 20th in 2022.  Thank you!"
