North Central West Virginia Airport (CKB) announced today that the preliminary enplanements (passenger flying out the airport) for 2014 are the highest they have been since the 1980’s. The preliminary count for 2014 is 22,765 enplaned passengers.

The number marks an increase of 106% from the 2013 enplanement mark of 11,021. The increase in passengers can be attributed to the steady scheduled airline presence of Allegiant Airlines to Orlando-Sanford International Airport (SFB) with 58% of the passenger total and Silver Airlines to Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD) claiming 24% of those flying out of Bridgeport.

The Big 12 charter operations is also a large contribution to the record mark of 16% of enplanements. General aviation rounds out the final 2% of enplanements.

“Our goal is to earn the business of our customers. We realize that it is their choice where they spend their money. We appreciate their support of the North Central West Virginia Airport” said Richard B. Rock, NCWV Airport Director.

The success of the North Central West Virginia Airport this past year comes on the heels of the March 2014 announcement of the airport and its Aerospace Park’s $1 Billion economic impact. The enplanement numbers are recorded by the Airport Authority Staff and will be officially verified by the Department of Transportation in the first quarter of 2015. According to the FAA and DOT an enplaned passenger is a departing, revenue passenger boarding.
