The North Central West Virginia Airport will receive an antique Tri-County Airport plaque on Wednesday, May 31 at 1 p.m.

The NCWVA will be hosting an event to honor the gifting of the plaque and celebrate the history of the airport at the time of the gifting.
James Giuliani, a private collector, stumbled upon this historical treasure from 1934, at an auction.

Once in Giuliani’s possession, he discussed plans for the plaque with Dick Duez, an expert in Bridgeport history.

The Harrison County West Virginia Historical Society was contacted, and it was decided this antique piece should be returned to the North Central West Virginia Airport.

Giving a brief lesson on this local airport, . Duez said, “The first airport was near Quiet Dell, which is now the location of Bel Meadow Golf Course. There was no commercial airport here [in Bridgeport] until 1934, when that was developed. It was the beginning of what is now the longest airport runway in West Virginia," said Duez.

The ceremony will highlight the importance of having the airport and how Bridgeport and surrounding areas have benefitted from it.
The event is open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
