Two with Ties Through Youngsters to BHS Football Program are Dyer Group Playoff Payoff Winners

By Jeff Toquinto on November 05, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The top finishers in this week’s Dyer Group Playoff Payoff Football Pick’em contest had more than their scores in common. One winner currently has a son playing for Bridgeport’s football team, while the other had a relative who previously played for the Tribe.

Apparently, that helps when prognosticating games. And for Jeff Muller, it helps to be a little lucky as well.

Muller won the blind draw and needs to contact Ben Queen at ben@benqueenphotography.com with contact information including an address along with his choice of a Buffalo Wild Wings gift card or a small cheesecake from Almost Heaven Desserts. Muller's son JT Muller is currently on the Indians squad.

Along with Muller, Clayce Spurlock was also at the top with a 23-2 mark. Spurlock will also need to send his contact information to Queen as well and will receive the prize not chosen by Muller. Spurlock's nephew Zach was a standout for the Tribe during their most recent championship run.

Six individuals finished the week tied for third place. Kalie Kossar, Adam Starkey, John Satterfield, Butch Elliott, Bill Montgomery, and Carol Hilton had 22-3 marks for the week.

The rest of the top 25 was a 20-way tie for ninth place. The group of Adam Holbert, Michael Harki, Jayson Nicewarner, Joseph Pecarro, Tyler Furbee, Frank Blake, Dwight Bullough, Amber Gaines, Robert Marra, Andrew Banko, Hugh Gainer, Louis Aragona, David Gillot, Vernon Louk, Jason McCall, Jody Hinkle, Marcus Derosa, Eric Jefferies, Timmy Thompson and Adam Sondericker finished week 10 with a 21-4 mark.

In the overall standings, things have tightened up. And they’ve tightened up between two past champions.

Jason Hartman still leads the way at 219-53 but watched as Hugh Gainer closed the gap. Gainer is in second place with a 216-56 record. In third place is Jimmy Stutler with a record of 215-57, while Clayce Spurlock is fourth at 214-58. Rounding out the top five is Aaron Williams with a mark of 213-59.

Two individuals are tied for sixth place as Brian Martin and Michael Mann stand at 212-60. A four-way tie comes into play at the eighth spot as Louis Aragona, Jeff Muller, Kalie Kossar, and Timmy Thompson are showing a mark of 211-61.

A three-way tie is in place at No. 12. Gary Romano, Adam Holbert, and Chad Reppert come in with a number of 210-62. Four individuals show a total of 209-63 for No. 15, and the group consists of David Gillot, Jason Jimmie, Scott Price, and James Burton II.

The trio of Adam Starkey, Stacy Greely, and Aaron Mann are tied at No. 19 with a picking mark of 208-64. Rounding out the overall top 25 are four tied for No. 22. The group of Amber Gaines, Rob Stallman, Patsy Sabatelli, and Jason Young are all at 207-65.

The prize packages are still being put together for the year. However, one of the top prizes include a $500 gift certificate from the Meadowbrook Mall. The top three pickers will be awarded prizes at the end of the contest, which usually goes into December. The overall winner has their choice of the three prizes, while the second-place winner will have their choice then of the final two remaining prizes.

What makes the Dyer Group Playoff Payoff competition unique is that once the contest is over you don’t necessarily know who the winner is even though you will see your weekly overall ranking and Connect-Bridgeport will post the weekly and overall top 25 throughout the contest. At the end of the year, everyone that competes has their two worst weeks dropped and then the winner is announced based on the highest winning percentage.

If you haven’t entered at this point, you won’t be able to win any of the grand prizes. However, you can still enter and be eligible for weekly prizes and bragging rights with friends.

If you are a registered member of Connect-Bridgeport's Web site, all you must do is make sure you're signed in and the click the Playoff Payoff icon on the home page that can be found by scrolling down to the left. If you're not registered, go to the top of the home page and register. It takes less than a minute.

Another unique aspect of the competition is that you can make changes to your picks leading up to games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Individuals can make their picks for Friday’s games and can change them until 6 p.m. Friday. Games that are listed on Saturday and Sunday can be entered and changed as many times as necessary until 11 a.m. each day of the picks.

Unfortunately, there are occasional schedule changes - usually on the prep football side - that staff does not catch; usually games moved to Thursday or a time change bumped up. There are also occasional mistakes with the proper teams playing each other. As has been the case in the past, each person will either be given a win for those games when there are schedule changes we miss or a mistake on our end or a or they will simply not be counted for the weekly and final standings.

You must use your actual name to compete. Nicknames or aliases will not be recognized for weekly or overall prizes.
