Benefit Your View of BHS Football Games, Benefit School at Same Time with Reserved Seating Purchase

Once again, Bridgeport High School is selling reserved seating for the upcoming football season, according to Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Matt DeMotto. And once again, DeMotto expects the majority of the remaining seats to go quickly.

“We have 130 seats total for sale and we have between 50 and 60 remaining for purchase,” said DeMotto, as the seat program enters its sixth year. “The good news is that many of those remaining are among the best we have.”

DeMotto said it’s best to get them sooner as opposed to later. He said the school sells between 110 and 120 of the seats annually since they were installed. The cost to have a reserved seat with a back and an arm rest near the middle of the field for five regular season home games is $100.

“We always want to make sure everyone knows that the price does not include your game ticket. The cost guarantees you a seat for the varsity regular season home games,” said DeMotto.

DeMotto said the reason they don’t always sell out is that some of the seats in the front row don’t have perfect visibility and there are occasionally single seats that don’t sell as individuals purchasing seats choose the seats they want from those remaining. Individuals purchasing seats last year have already been given the chance to renew their seats and that means the remainder are available to anyone that wants them.

“We’ve seen in some years that individuals having trouble climbing steps or who want easy access in and out actually like the front row seats,” said DeMotto. “Right now we should have something that would satisfy most everyone as far as how they would like to view the game, but they’ll go quickly.”

The proceeds raised from the seats will continue to go to the FieldTurf fund even though the new turf was installed last year. Roughly $50,000 was raised in the first go round and that number should be higher the next time turf is needing to be replaced. DeMotto said the bulk of the funds will continue to be earmarked for that purpose.

“Every dollar is important because the replacement of a turf is a high dollar item. The next time we replace it there’s always a possibility we may have to do subsurface work, which will raise the cost if that has to be done if it’s determined the subsurface is not as permeable as it needs to be,” said DeMotto. “We don’t want to wait to have money available to cover a portion of the cost whatever that may be. We want to be able to have funds to offset the cost.”
