Before the weather make another 180 this weekend, Bridgeport’s baseball team managed to get in several games this past week. The Indians went 4-1, including 3-1 in the annual McDonald’s Classic.

The only downside was the Tribe suffered their first loss of the season. BHS lost the second of two games with Erie McDowell out of Pennsylvania on Friday.

Thanks to the setback, the Indians fell to 7-1 on the year. However, did the loss result in Bridgeport falling out of the top spot in the MetroNews Baseball Power Rankings?

Although the loss did impact the Indians, they are still ranked at the top of the Class AA standings. Bridgeport managed to capture eight of the 10 first place votes from the panel of statewide sports writers and radio broadcasters.

The other two first place votes went to Winfield. The Generals stand at 13-2 on the season.

One other local team finds itself ranked in the top five. Fairmont Senior jumped up big in the standings and currently are ranked No. 4 thanks to its 7-1 record.

The rest of the top five consists of Wayne (10-3) at No. 3 and Chapmanville (10-4) at No. 5. Only one other team is ranked in the top 10 is from the area.

East Fairmont, another Big 10 Conference school, finds itself at No. 9. The Bees are currently 10-3.

Only one other team from the area is in the “also receiving votes” portion of the poll in Class AA. Lincoln received votes in the most recent poll.

Notre Dame, in Class A, is in the “also receiving votes” portion of that classification.
