Indians Start, Finish Strong to Get Postseason Win vs. Liberty; Face RCB for Sectional Crown Saturday

Bridgeport started strong and finished strong to earn a 65-53 win against Liberty in the semifinal round of the Class AA Region II, Section 1 at the McDonnell Center on the campus of Davis & Elkins College.
The win moves Bridgeport to 15-7 on the year. The Mountaineers end the season at 7-16.
The Indians placed four players in double figures, led by Brayden Lesher's 18, to get the win. Jake Bowen added 14, Tanner Bifano finished with 11 and Blake Bowers netted 10 points. Bifano led the way with nine rebounds, while Bowen finished with seven boards.
The game was tight early in the contest. In fact, Bridgeport led 13-11. The Indians ended the quarter on an 8-0 run highlighted by 3-pointers by Bowers and Lesher to go up 21-11 after one quarter of play.
Although the Indians extended their advantage in the second, things were played much tighter. The Indians would have been up by 11, but a late basket by Jake Bowne provided the Tribe with a 33-20 advantage with two periods to play.
Lesher led BHS with nine points in the first half. Bowen added eight points.
Despite being down double figures, Liberty came out firing in the third. Behind Chance Howell, who scored 13 points during the frame, Liberty got as close as one point at 40-39 when Howell drained one of his three 3-pointers. Bridgeport would close the frame on a 12-6 run to lead 52-45 after three.
The Indians will now play Robert C. Byrd in the sectional championship tomorrow at D&E. The Eagles, now 13-7, were a 58-44 winner against Elkins the first game of the evening at D&E.
Bridgeport and Robert C. Byrd split the regular season series. Each team won on their home floor.
