Business Web Site Lists Top Cities in All 50 States and Bridgeport Does More than Just Fare Very Well

When it comes to honors and awards, Bridgeport isn’t exactly immune to them. In fact, from the schools to the athletics to the city itself, Bridgeport often finds itself landing honorable awards.

Now, they’ve got another one to add to the list.

On January 11, the Web site businessinsider.com released a list of “The best place to live in every U.S. State.” When it came to West Virginia, Bridgeport made the cut as the best city in the Mountain State. About the only thing wrong with the article is the pictures used in the article is of the Pete Dye Golf Club, which is outside the municipal limits.

Unlike some of the “Web site lists” that run on Connect-Bridgeport for items such as the best type of food or a unique holiday get away that are the opinion of the author, Businessinsider.com used a methodology to come up with their ranking. And the methodology can be found inside the link to the Web site at the bottom of the story. A big criteria involves public schools, of which Bridgeport has found plenty of success.

“They’ve taken the entire state and have calculations that are used involving schools and things such as median home prices among other criteria to make their determination,” said Bridgeport Community Development Director Andrea Kerr. “Once that is established, they ranked everyone and Bridgeport came out on top.”

Kerr said there is an actual benefit to being on lists such as this. In fact, Kerr said the city keeps a running list of such honors when businesses show interest that they can use to try and help recruit those businesses.

“It is part of the reasons we tell them they should choose Bridgeport if they show an interest in coming here,” said Kerr. “Some of the developers know of the positive things the city has to offer and many businesses are already researching, but to have this information available from sources outside of Bridgeport is something that is really a nice tool. Whether it’s educational achievement, athletic achievement or a city-based achievement such as this, it’s all included.”
