Hotsinpiller "Fallen Stars 5K" Video Done to Promote Event, Capture Emotion

When Bridgeport High School alum and Impakt Media’s Luke Nesler was approached by fellow BHS alum Ryan Nicewarner about doing a video promoting the Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars Memorial 5K Law Enforcement Challenge in honor of the late U.S. Marshal Derek Hotsinpiller, he didn’t have to think about.

“I just wanted to know what they needed me to do,” said Nesler.

What they needed was a fresh video showing the importance of the 5K and what the funds are used for, Nesler said. He said it would be a way to market the event to make it even more successful that what it already is.

“They’ve had a video before, which was an absolutely great one done by Jason Adams,” said Nesler. “This one was just to refresh it and get a new piece out there for marketing purposes so they could raise more money for the scholarships the race supports.”

The scholarship is the Derek Hotsinpiller and Lt. Jim Hotsinpiller Memorial Scholarship fund named after Derek and his father, a long-time member of the Bridgeport Police Department. Funds from the race provide scholarship dollars and also honors the memory of all members of law enforcement lost in the line of duty.

Along with that noble cause, the video for Nesler combined his job with his love for BHS. And it also helped him get involved with a project for someone he looked up to in high school.

The late Derek Hotsinpiller was admired by many for his role in law enforcement. And he had a fan long before that in Nesler.
“I looked up to Derek a lot in high school. He was a senior football player when I was a sophomore and was just good to me and all the guys,” said Nesler. “He was a role model simply by the way he treated everyone. If in some small way this helps pay back for that kindness that’s a good thing.”

Nesler said the video shoot aimed at doing two things. He said it was to provide the knowledge of the event by talking with Derek Hotsinpiller’s mother Pam and his brother Dustin. On top of that, he wanted to capture the emotion, which he said he felt took place. There is one other person that enjoyed the video and thought it met the objectives Nesler set – Pam Hotsinpiller.

“I thought it was wonderfully done,” said Pam Hotsinpiller. “We want to make this as big as possible and let everyone know what the event is all about.”
