"Title Town" T-Shirts Commemorating 2013-14 BHS State Titles Now on Sale

After winning seven state championships during the 2013-14 school year, many in the community felt that Bridgeport High School had helped the city earn the moniker of “Title Town.” Now, that title is being solid on a t-shirt not only recognizing the accomplishments of the high school this past year, but also helping a good cause.

BHS Principal Mark DeFazio said the school is now selling “Title Town” t-shirts in various sizes to the community. The shirts cost $15 with the proceeds going to the Bridgeport High School Alumni & Friends Foundation.

“One hundred percent of the proceeds are going to the Foundation,” said DeFazio.

In order to get a t-shirt, individuals can stop by the high school from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. DeFazio said they just need to stop by the administrative office.  Also, the t-shirts can be purchased this coming Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“On Sunday, we’ll be doing the junior class parking passes so for those that can’t make it through the day they can stop by the school on Sunday,” DeFazio said. “If they come by Sunday they need to stop in the school library.”

Already, the proceeds are earmarked for a specific use by the alumni group. DeFazio said the goal is to raise enough money to provide yet another scholarship.

“We would need another $1,500 to $2,000 for a scholarship,” said DeFazio. “We think we’ll be able to do that with these t-shirts.”

The Foundation last year gave out approximately $30,000 in scholarships to deserving BHS students. DeFazio, who sits on the board, singled out the members for their efforts.

“It’s a great feeling to see our kids get close to $30,000 from the alumni group. The public really needs to thank those ladies and gentlemen that put in the work throughout the year raising money,” said DeFazio. “I really don’t think anyone knows the effort they put in, but I do know they do it for the reward that the scholarship provides in the form of opportunity.”

The red t-shirts with white lettering have “Title Town” written on the front. On the back the list of all seven state championships – five athletic and two academic – are listed.

Individuals that aren’t able to get to the school at the aforementioned time can purchase them during upcoming home football games. DeFazio said they’ll be available then and if they run out of shirts the school will take orders for more.
