Main Street’s newest business is in a building that looks a whole lot better than its predecessor. And changes are good, the owners of the new building believe fully that when you leave their new building you’ll be looking better too.

On June 12, the city’s newest establishment – Beyond Beauty – opened its doors for business. The new shop, owned and operated by Kay McKibben, is situated at 921 West Main Street at the intersection of Corpening Drive. The building has since been completely gutted and remodeled, as well as on the exterior.

For those that don’t remember, the building, it most recently was home to Psychic Eye. The building has also housed Wise Nutrition, Atlas Technologies and Third Millennium Marketing, according to the Bridgeport Finance Department.

“This was a lower six-figure renovation to an existing building that turned out extremely well,” said Bridgeport Community Development Director Randy Spellman.

McKibben believes that those coming through her doors for one of the many services will turn out extremely well. McKibben is one of four individuals working there with more than just a fair share of experience.

“Every girl that is working here has at least 20 years of experience,” said McKibben. “We’re all pretty comfortable with what we’re doing.”

What they’re doing includes all types of haircuts, highlights, perms, eyebrow waxing and, soon, manicures and pedicures to go along with the tanning room. McKibben said there were be four nail techs added to the staff roster as soon as work is completed in that area.
“It’s been pretty good. We’re picking up walk-ins to go along with our own clientele that most of us have developed over the years. We think this is going to be good for all of us,” said McKibben. “It’s also a tremendous location.”

The site was also looking to be the home of M&D Auto Mart, a used car dealership that would have been located in the back. That won’t be taking place at the location. McKibben’s husband, Vince, was going to handle that business.

Regardless, the city has a new look to its Main Street corridor on the opposite side of the road of Wilson Martino. And Spellman said it’s a good thing.

“This started as a standard remodel and (Vince McKibben), in essence, did a new building,” said Spellman. “It’s always nice to see a building look that nice as you enter and leave the city. As a city, we welcome them and wish them the best.”

The new business is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They can be reached by calling 304-842-4220.
