Ever get cold at an outdoor event involving Bridgeport High School? Ever get cold at any outdoor event?

If so, the Bridgeport High School band patrons that not only will answer the above questions, but would provide some much needed assistant to the students in the school’s band program. Currently, the band is selling stadium blankets that should provide that much needed warmth.

According to band patron and parent volunteer Deb Sambol, the blankets come in both red and black. They are 50x60 and are made of cotton polyester preshrunk fleece.

“They are really nice looking blankets and when you’re wrapped up in one it’s like being wrapped up in a sweatshirt,” said Sambol.

The cost of the blankets is $30. All anyone has to do is contact any member of the Bridgeport High School band to place and order. The orders will be taken until Sept. 24 and will be in by Oct. 8. Money is needed at the time of the orders as they are being made locally. For those making out checks, they need to be made out to BHS Band Patrons.

The company “We Make it Personal” is doing the work, said Sambol. They are situated out of Lost Creek.

If you don’t need a stadium blanket, then there’s also another annual fundraiser that’s officially kicked off for the band. The Florida Indian Rivers Groves fruit sale – consisting of oranges, grapefruit and tangelos – are now available for order.

Prices range from $20 to $37, depending on the amount ordered. A 10 pound order is $20, a 20 pound order is $27 and a 40 pound order is $37. Sambol said you can order mixed cartons of fruit. Orders for the fruit sale will be received through Nov. 7. The band is also selling West Virginia Fruit and Berry products in conjunction with the sale. Orders can be picked up during the Bridgeport Christmas Parade, at the high school or by delivery. Further information will be posted when orders are about to arrive.

Justina Ogden can be contacted for questions regarding blanket orders or to place an order at 304-203-1522. Contact any band member to also order blanket or fruit.

Along with providing funds for the BHS band, members of the band receive trip credits to help defer various costs. In particular, it help with a trip to New York to participate in the Veteran’s Day Parade, which is a four-day trip, Sambol said. (Story on that trip soon on Connect-Bridgeport.com)

“The money really helps not only with the trip, but the band program as a whole. Money can go toward the uniform fund, which is part of the band’s long-term planning,” said Sambol. “There are so many other things as well. We use the money to pay for things such as tour buses for longer trips or for a trip when there may not be a school bus available.”
