With the West Virginia Assessment Scores in, the Web site Schooldigger.com has released their rankings for the 2017-18 school year. And Bridgeport High School has fared quite well.

Using items such as the assessment scores, student and teacher ratio and other factors, the Web site comes up with an average. And this year’s average nearly has the Indians sitting as the top high school in West Virginia.

After finishing third last year, Bridgeport jumped up one spot as the second highest ranked high school in the Mountain State with a final average score of 99.8. That total is just barely behind George Washington, which finished at 99.8 percent.

There were 115 high schools ranked.

The Patriots were the top school last year in the poll done by the Web site regardless of classification. The Web site analyzes various data for schools nationwide in grades K-through-12.

Bridgeport High School Principal Matt DeMotto was pleased with the ranking. He had words of praise for the students and staff.

“This ranking is again a testament to the hard work of our staff and students.  Two of the most important factors in a schools success are highly motivated students and who stands prepared to teach them,” said DeMotto. “We have great young people and a dedicated staff.”

However, he pointed to something else. DeMotto gave praise to the entire Bridgeport community and feeder area.

“It's also no secret that we benefit from a community that values education and expects their sons and daughters to commit to academic excellence.  The overwhelming majority of our parents support our staff and the programs we implement,” said DeMotto. “I'm personally humbled and grateful for what our community does to support the success of Bridgeport High School.  This support is crucial to continued success and we very much appreciate all members of our tribe.”

Bridgeport Middle School also fared well in the standings. Read about it later this week on Connect-Bridgeport.

The Bridgeport elementary schools also finished in the top third of the rankings. Johnson Elementary was ranked 100th out of 392 elementary schools. Simpson Elementary finished at 110th in the rankings.
