Registration Now Being Accepted, Time Announced for Annual Reppert-Jamison-Reep Golf Tournament

By Jeff Toquinto on June 08, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For anyone that heard the annual Mary A. Reppert-Wayne Jamison-Bob Reep Golf Tournament wasn’t going to take place this year, those involved with this year’s event say that’s not the case. However, the tournament will have a bit of a new feel to it.

“We’re wanting the public to know that it’s continuing and that it’s got a bit of change this year,” said Travis Jones, who serves as the Voice of the Indians on the WAJR Radio network. “This year, it’s the same tournament, but it’s being presented by the Friends of Bridgeport Football.

This year will mark the 19th year of the event that was started as the brainchild of the late Bob Reep, who wanted a way to honor long-time BHS football Coach Wayne Jamison and the late Reppert. The event has grown to the point where it funds multiple scholarships each year. In fact, tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships have been presented, said Jones, thanks to the dedication of those that have handled the program.

And now, the time has been announced individuals can register for the event that will have several new faces involved in organizing things.

The event will be held at July 14 at the Bridgeport Country Club. Registration for the tournament is at 11:30 a.m. Things will then commence with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

“We’re now accepting golfers for the tournament,” said Jones. “There are a couple of ways to sign up.”

Individuals can sign up by mailing a check to 227 Mesa Drive, Bridgeport, West Virginia, 26330 with checks made payable to “Friends of Bridgeport Football.” The cost is $400 for a foursome or $100 for individual entrants. Those interested can also email indiansfootball@hotmail.com. You will have a response to your email inquiry and directions on how to enter.

For those that have other questions, they can contact Ryan Nicewarner. Nicewarner can be reached at 304-677-7302.

The address, the email and even calls to Nicewarner can be done as well for individual looking to become hole sponsors. The fee is $100 and checks would also be made out to “Friends of Bridgeport Football.”

“We’ve already had a few individuals contact us expressing their interest,” said Jones. “We’re expecting around 100 golfers.”

Jones said for those worried that there will be a change; he said not to be. He pointed out that the time and effort put in by those that have ran the event in the past is to be commended and also needs to be recognized by letting those individuals have a break.

“You see people like Fay Jamison, Steve and Darletta Stout, Alice Rowe and so many others that have given so much time in honor of those the tournament has been named after. Those individuals are still involved and will be involved as much as they want as we certainly won’t be stepping on anyone’s toes” said Jones. “After nearly two decades, our group (the Friends of Bridgeport Football) wanted to see if we could step in and help out to keep the scholarships funded and help our organization out as well.”

Jones also pointed out that the Friends of Bridgeport Football will not be having a separate golf tournament.

“It’s a combined effort and it makes sense to leave it in the names of those individuals because it speaks volumes to the love and commitment Mrs. Reppert and Wayne had to the care of the football program,” said Jones. “It’s part of many things that make the program successful year in and year out and then you have a man like Bob Reep that had the vision to do something like this that in place now for nearly 20 years.”
