For those enjoying the 6^th Annual Bridgeport Family Fun Day held at Bridgeport City Park June 7, there’s some good news. There will be a seventh event in 2019.

 

“There is absolutely no doubt we’ll be doing this again next year and you can go ahead and mark down a 7^th annual event,” said Community Development Director Andrea Kerr. “The city just loves putting on this event. Going ahead and saying it is coming back is a no brainer.”

 

It appears the community of Bridgeport and beyond loves taking part in it. Kerr said this year’s event produced a record turnout.

 

“We had well over 2,000 people and the weather was perfect,” said Kerr. “It was easily the most we’ve had and we’ve had right about 2,000 people and more before.”

 

The city does a loose head count of those attending. Members of Bridgeport Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) take care of the numbers with hand counters.

 

“Along with the weather being good, it’s to the point now where people know what to expect and they come back. Plus this year the band, Crimson Reign, knocked it out of the park,” said Kerr. “It was an all-around fun evening.”

 

The cost of the event is much less than one would anticipate for something that has the attendance numbers Family Day has. Any costs (such as attractions like the band) involved are covered by city line items in the budget.

 

The reason for the cost being low is simple. Kerr said the majority of everyone involved in the event – from vendors to personnel – volunteer their time and services.

 

“What makes that even better is that every single vendor that said they would show up did show up,” said Kerr. “The feedback we get every year from our vendors is that they loving coming to this event and because of that it’s one of the easiest we plan each year despite it being one of the biggest each year.”
