North Central West Virginia Airport Director Rick Rock said he felt good about the chances of landing new or even expanded destination flight service through Allegiant following a recent meeting with the airline. Apparently, he had a reason to feel that way.

Today, Allegiant announced nine new nonstop routes for spring vacation travel to what it called “premier destinations in Florida and the southwest.” Among those nine routes is one many in Bridgeport and beyond have been asking for.

Starting on March 11 of 2022, the NCWV Airport will add a flight to St. Petersburg, Florida. The flight from Bridgeport and back will be direct flight connecting with St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE).

“This is the one that a lot of people have asked for. We’ve listened to our passengers and our community and that helped. This is exciting because we continue to grow,” said Rock. “This is good for North Central West Virginia.

“The most exciting part about this is it’s a year-round schedule,” Rock continued. “This is what we needed and we’re happy to be able to deliver it.”

The flights will be offered two days a week – Monday and Friday.

“That’s a fabulous schedule,” said Rock. “Like the rest of the flights, I expect the community will support this, which is why we are able to land it in the first place.”

Rock said in two market studies done by the airport show that, outside of Orlando, the Tampa-St. Petersburg area is the number one flight destination for this area.

According to the Allegiant press release, fares will begin as low as $49.

"These routes will connect our customers to premier destinations in Arizona and Florida just in time for Spring break," said Drew Wells, Allegiant's senior vice president of revenue and planning. "Whether travelers are looking to explore the desert southwest or take in the beaches of Florida, we've got the flights for them – free from the hassle of stops and layovers – at a price they can afford."

Individuals can find flight days, times, and the lowest fares for all flights out of Bridgeport at Allegiant.com, according to the release. Individuals can go to flyckb.com as well.

The flight will now be the fourth destination flight offered by Allegiant. The airline offers year-round service to Orlando, as well as summer flight service to Myrtle Beach and Destin, Florida.
