Afternoon Wreck on Route 76 Leaves Truck Mangled, on Side; One Individual Transported to Hospital

A truck rolled off of State Route 76 this afternoon and ended up landing on a pile of concrete debris that left the vehicle completely disabled and the drive in need of transportation to United Hospital Center.

The call came into the Harrison County 911 center at 4:21 this afternoon. Upon arrival, the Bridgeport Fire Department and Bridgeport Emergency squad found a red Chevrolet Tahoe on its side resting on top of what appeared to be a fill area that had chunks of concrete in it.

According to a Bridgeport Fire official, there was only the one transport involved. He said he did not believe the injuries to be life threatening.

The crash of the vehicle took place heading from Taylor County toward Bridgeport in an area past Dovetail Estates and near Lakeland Terrace. The crash, which one individual heard and said sounded like a bomb went off, was strong enough to roll the car and force airbag deployment.

Although outside of the city limits, the area is part of the fire department’s first due coverage area. The investigation, which is ongoing, will be handled by the Harrison County Sherriff’s Department.

Traffic was slightly backed up as fire personnel cleared the scene and began removing their equipment. Delays were only minor at that point.
